Chinese Jump Rope

Do you have what it takes to play Chinese jump rope and win? Anyone who is looking to have some fun, get in a little more jump rope exercise, and actually do something out of the ordinary, will find Chinese jump rope games more than satisfying.

This game is one that has been passed down from one generation to the next and can be enjoyed anywhere by anyone willing to take on the challenge. It’s all about testing the skill and coordination of all players in a challenging but exciting way. Far from the traditional rope skipping game, here’s some advice on how to master it.

How to Play and Win

First things first, here’s a list of what you will need to learn how to play Chinese jump rope:

  • One 6ft long string of elastic band (tied into a circle)
  • A flat, level playing surface
  • Comfortable tennis shoes and loose fitting clothes

The elastic band needed for the game can be purchased ready-made and you can find it in various brilliant colors and sizes to add even more fun to the game. When you play the game, it’s best to avoid grassy areas because you could hurt your knees and ankles.

Now here are some simple Chinese jump rope instructions that will make playing the game easier:

  • For starters it takes at least three people to play the game (2 holders and 1 jumper)
  • Choose a set of moves (jumping out and in the jumping area; jumping over or on the rope; crossing the jump rope with your feet; positioning the rope so that one end of the rope is higher than the other).
  • The jump rope or band is placed around the ankles of the players – feet about 1 to 1.5 ft apart. Each player will get back as far as possible so that there is no slack in the rope.
  • The jumper stands on the inside or middle of the rope.
  • You need to keep up with whether or not the jumper is able to stick to the routine.
  • If the player makes a mistake, the jumper will switch positions with one of the holders.
  • If the player succeeds, the rope is moved a little bit higher.
  • The routine is repeated at the new height level.
  • As the jumper succeeds, the rope is moved up, until the jumper can no longer jump or fails and hits the rope when jumping.
  • New players begin with the rope at the lowest level.

The whole idea of the game is to jump as high as you can without making a mistake. When you do, you must change positions with one of the holders.

You Be The Judge

If you’ve ever played hopscotch then you’ll love Chinese jump rope. It will help to develop agility and is ideal for keeping kids active in a fun and amusing way. It can be played both indoors and outdoors. As you can see, Chinese jump rope is different from popular traditional game, like jump rope. Instead of two turners and one jumper trying to dodge the rope, you have two holders and one jumper who jumps inside an outside the rope.

Remember to always wear supportive, comfortable athletic shoes when playing Chinese jump rope as well as loose fitting, comfy clothes. If you need to escape the daily grind, a game of Chinese jump rope will do the trick. Teach your kids a better way of having fun and involve them to more active games. Lure your kids away from effortless and addictive console gaming or browsing the internet all day long. Have them experience the traditional games you played before during childhood and let the game be passed on to the next generation.
